Another holiday special: Russian Tier 5 TD – SU-85I

Not available for gold (it’s not a calendar item) but for sale in the store for $14 USD, $45 USD, and 67 USD, depending on the package.

Introduced in 2014, this was originally only available through the gift shop (is that still a thing?) and not on the tech tree.

It was in the game at launch and was supposed to be released in box sets so until version 9.0 it was never seen in the game.

It’s a captured German tank based on the Panzer III hull with an 85mm gun on a fixed turret.

At one point, it was once one of the rarest tanks in the game.

A 2014 review of this tank suggests it wasn’t worth the 10 Euro price (in 2014 money). Here’s a link to the review. Apparently, this tank is often the victim of ram kills and single shots from virtually every tier 6/7 tank.

Advent Calendar day 17: French light AMX 13 57

I got duped into buying this last year. It’s a fun tank but it does nothing but EAT credits because you seem to always want to load the gold in this beast.

You don’t see a lot of these in the wild but they pop up now and then. If you want this tank, be prepared to shell out (no pun intended) an actually quite reasonable price of 5000 gold. Bear in mind, this is a tier 7 tank, whereas the previous tanks on the calendar have been tier 8.

Of course, you can always choose the cash price of $25 USD for the base package or $113 for the full-blown Holiday extravaganza. This still includes the 10K gold and 10Mil credits from previous days.

Not sure I’d want to dump $100+ bucks on this deal although I would like the ‘Dark Night’ style that comes with it.

Advent calendar day 16: US heavy tank the T26E5

I’ll give this one two thumbs up and recommend you buy this if you play American tanks. It plays more like a medium rather than a heavy and you may find that it does best when you aren’t going head-to-head with other heavy tanks.

The Festive T26E5 can be obtained for 9700 gold or $44 USD all the way up to $126 USD.

Asshole of the day 15 Dec 2019: GEMANICUS

This fellow, GEMANICUS, from clan Baked starts the battle off giving us all some great advice and tells us why we should listen to him: 3 marked 60 tanks!

He didn’t end up doing very well in the battle but he kept on trolling through the match.

At the end of the round, I received the following message from him:

I do not understand the point of this type of after battle message. What is he trying to convey to me? That he’s a superior player? Hardly, he has insignificantly better stats in the game.

He has 54,684 battles in the game since 2013 with a 51.35% win rate. Compared to my 56,116 battles with a 50.69% win rate.

I don’t play for stats, just for fun.

But when I looked a little closer, he noticed that he has 25% of his games in one, overpowered, premium tank (th...

Advent calendar day 15: Russian light tank LT-432

Today’s offering is the Russian light tank LT-432. This one tempts me, a little, except that I abhor light tanks. I can’t make them work. I briefly enjoyed them several years ago when you could sneak into enemy territory and wipe out unprotected arty; but, for some reason, that rarely seems to work anymore. I think it has to do with buffed view ranges on every other class of tank, removal of maps where it was easier to sneak around, and the complete overhaul of light tanks was back in the day.

At any rate, for the low, low price of 6500 gold (which I now have, thanks to loot boxes) or good old American cash: $31 USD to $117 USD in 4 packages, you can own this probably OP Russian light tank.

Speaking of loot boxes…

I did buy some loot boxes this year though I hope to confine this spending to what I’ve already dumped into the game. Fortunately, I had some unexpected money in my paypal account to cover most of these purchases.

I bought 11 of each of the 4 types of boxes and without too much fanfare, here are my results.

New Year Boxes: 11

11 tier 5 decorations, 3250 gold, 6 days of premium time, 1 special commander, 200,000 credits, a T2 award tank, and a garage slot.

Christmas boxes: 11

11 tier 5 decorations, 3250 gold, 8 days of premium time, T6 Sherman VC Firefly with a garage slot, and tier 8 Obj 730 version II with garage slot. Only 100,000 credits.

Lunar boxes: 11

11 tier 5 decorations, 4500 gold, 13 days of premium, tier 6 French medium Bretagne Panther (with a garage slo...

Advent calendar day 14: Czech medium Skoda T 27

I have this one, too, and I feel like it’s pretty decent but slightly underwhelming. A three-shot clip with low alpha, I don’t think anyone fears this tank the way they fear the Italian Progetto.

It can be yours for 9700 gold for from $44 to $130 USD.

Unless you really, really love the Czech line, I would probably save your money on this one.

Advent calendar day 13: Polish heavy 50TP Prototyp

I got so excited opening loot boxes, I forgot to make a post yesterday.

I got this one at some point last year and, honestly, I don’t think it’s that great. The tech tree tier 8, the 53TP, is significantly better in every way. Except this one is good for crew training and credit grinding.

Gold cost: I don’t know!

The four bundles ranged from $48 US to $130 US.

I hope you saved your money and waited for something more better!

Advent calendar day 12: US light tank M 41 90 mm

I’m not sure I would spend the dough on this one, maybe hold back some money for the loot boxes coming out tomorrow!

For the low, low price of 6,500 gold, you can own this previously OP light tank. Cash price: $32 USD – $117 USD.

Advent Calendar day 11: US Heavy tank Chrysler K

Few tanks in WoT are as notorious as the US tier 8 heavy tank the Chrysler K. It was introduced to the game in 2017. It was sold for $80 US and immediately drew the ire of many prominent WoT YouTubers and community contributors.

Sir Foch, arguably one of the most popular tankers at the time, created a scathing youtube video attacking Wargaming for selling what he considered an overpowered tank that had no front weaknesses.

Wargaming fired back and threated to copy strike him.

Meanwhile, the rest of the WoT community either rushed out to buy one or condemned wargaming for their truly draconian behavior (not to mention their money-grubbing cash grab).

Other YouTubers and community contributors like the Might Jingles also came out ...
